Every year Playa del Carmen welcomes many people who, besides enjoying the sea, use their stay to look after their dental health. It is possible, but there is a big difference between treatment that is improvised and treatment that is well planned. Planning before you travel lets your appointments fit alongside your days off and the treatment be done with the time it needs. At Nümia we explain how to organize it. If it is your first time in the city, we share the clinic’s location and how to get there.
Before you travel
The ideal is to start planning before you book your appointments. Write to us and tell us:
- What you would like to treat or what discomfort you have.
- Whether you have recent studies, such as X-rays, and reports from your dentist.
- How many days you will be in Playa del Carmen and on which dates.
With that information we can guide you on what is possible during your stay and how many appointments you might need. The final plan is always confirmed with the assessment at the dental office, because some things can only be seen at the check-up.
What fits in a trip
Not all treatments take the same amount of time. Some usually fit into a few days:
- A check-up and a dental cleaning.
- Fillings to repair small cavities or fractures.
- Whitening.
Others have stages that need time between one and the next:
- Implants, because the bone needs months to integrate before the crown is placed.
- Orthodontics, which requires regular check-ups during the treatment.
- Treatments with several crowns or veneers, which may need more than one visit.
In those cases we explain how the treatment is spread out, what can be done on this trip and what would be left for a next visit.
If you are not sure how many days you need, write to us beforehand and we will work it out together based on what you tell us.
How to organize your days
Some recommendations so that your treatment and your trip go well together:
- Have the assessment when you arrive, in your first days, to have some margin if more than one appointment is needed.
- Leave space between appointments, especially for longer treatments.
- Do not schedule a procedure on the day of your flight, or right before it: it is wise to have at least one day to check that everything is fine.
- Ask about sun, sea and food. After some procedures it is wise to avoid very hot or hard foods, or to wait before swimming; we give you the instructions for each one.
After the treatment
Before you head home, we give you in writing the care you need to follow and explain what is normal to feel in the following days. We also tell you who to write to if you have questions once you are back.
If your treatment continues in your own country, we give you the information about what we did at the dental office so your dentist at home can follow up. And if the plan includes another visit to Playa del Carmen, we schedule it well in advance.
If a question comes up once you are home, you can write to us and we will go over it with you.
Traveling calmly
Traveling already has its own rhythm, and a dental appointment should not add rush to it. At Nümia every visit follows the Ritual Nümia: arriving without hurry, a tea or a coffee at the Coffee Bar and an appointment in which we explain each step before we do it. If being treated far from home makes you nervous, tell us; we adjust the pace of the appointment and, if you need it, we assess conscious sedation with you on request.
When to see us
